Questions.

The questions we expect, answered straight.

Is this in opposition to the existing Fringe?

No. We're our own festival with our own rules. If the existing Fringe wants to adopt the same proposals, all the better.

What does Fringe Fringe actually do?

Runs a festival in Melbourne from 29 September to 18 October.

Who runs it?

It's a project of afaircut.org. See the About page for who's on the board, however we need more help!

Are these proposals final?

No. They're proposals, not finished policy. We're holding a town hall to talk them through with artists, producers, venues and supporters, and we'll publish any changes that come out of it.

What does registering interest actually commit me to?

Nothing binding. It's a public count of who's in. You can withdraw any time. We'll open official registrations soon.

Are there registration fees?

Not this year. From year two on, yes: published, reasonable, fair.

What is a festival-managed venue and why don't you have them?

A festival-managed venue is one the festival itself runs alongside programming shows and giving out awards. We think that's too many conflicts of interest in one chair. See our proposals to learn more.

Why is judge attendance public?

Publishing attendance is the simplest enforcement mechanism we could think of. We'll pilot a programme that's fair.

What's the five percent fee about?

Every festival takes a share of ticket sales to fund the support artists rely on. Ours is fixed at five percent and will never rise. Locking the rate means the festival can't quietly grow its take year after year.

Should I skip the existing Fringe to come to this one?

No. Come to both. We're not asking anyone to choose. We just want a festival that works for artists and producers, and that means building one.

How can I help if I'm not an artist, producer or venue?

Register your interest as a supporter! Share. Show up at the festival.
